Engine swap 123 to 126

Hello Everyone! New to this forum.

I have some questions about installing a 5 cylinder Turbo Diesel from a W123 chassis into a 126 chassis. Can the engines be swapped straight across or are there modifications required, and if so how difficult.

Thanks

Sedecrem

If the 126 had a 617, then I think the biggest difference is the motor mount brackets/arms.

What was/is the 126 now, and what year?
What year is the 123?

Larry, thanks for the post!

The 126 is a 300sd. the 123 is a 300D turbo (300DT?) Both are '82s.

Thanks

Why though, would you want such a weakling in a 126 car though? Just curious. What is the curb weight difference between the two cars. I know the 123 is a whole lot less car than the 126 as far as weight goes. As it is the 123 can't get out of it's own way, and I can't imagine a 126 with a 617 anything in it. It's equal to putting a four cylinder, from a Cavalier, into a full size Chevy Caprice wagon. It can be done, but why, and is the end result really worth it? Don't want to harp on you for it, but these are my thoughts on the whole idea.

Truck

You are thinking of the 300D normally aspirated motor @ 88 hp. The engine I am considering is a turbo, same as the engine that is in the car now. You are correct of course about using a 300D non turbo in a W126. These are slow in the W123 chassis which is some 400-500 lbs. lighter than the W126.

Thanks for the post
