1995 C280 dash lights get bright then dim

The dash lights get bright, then dim, then bright then dim.... this pulsing has a cycle of a few minutes but it is noticeable when it goes from bright to dim and vice versa.

Maybe coincidentally, maybe not it failed to start a few days ago as well. After waiting a few minutes it cranked and started like nothing had happened.
