Do you recommend Mobil1 0-40 for my 560SEL?

Normally I use 15-40 Titan oil. I'm woundering if it is a good idea to use Mobil1 0-40 for my 560SEL 1989. Is that going to hurt the engine or it's better? For your information that the temperature here in Kuwait is too hot, sometimes over 50c (yes fifty degree c).

The lower number, "0", is important for cold starting. The higher number, "40", is important for operating temperature. I'm not familiar with Titan oil, but your 560SEL should run fine on 15W-40. You could even consider using 20W-50 in your climate.

I wouldn't consider 0W-40 or 5W-40 for your climate. It's more appropriate for where I live.

I would not use 0-40 in an M117.. For one, it's too light, 2nd, that's a Very wide range requiring a lot of modifiers.

Stick w/ the 15-40 (diesel oil is good, has the correct level of zinc) or M1 20-50 w/ a zinc additive.

It's a synthetic--what's being modified?

0W-40 is perfect.

As my understanding (may very well be wrong) but to achieve that sort of spread one needs to fiddle w/ the chains etc..thus an oil w/ a narrower gap will out last one w/o a wider gap.

Also, it would be wise to add zinc to your M1...they have greatly decreased the concentration of late and our cars (cams in particular) were designed w/ higher levels of zinc in mind.


MB never recomended or approved 0-40 for use in an M117.
Based on the engines I have taken apart where owners have stuck to MB's recommended weight along w/ a conservative oil change regime and the resulting Beautiful internals/bearings I'm likely to continue that trend.

I have a few choices here.... I can't be running 0W stuff because my area is always around 0C... I have

10W30 - dino oil or Castrol Syntec
10W40 - Royal Purple
5W50 - Castrol Syntec

what do you guys recommend?? The engine sees vigorous excercising everyday ( at least hits red line once a day). So far so good but oil change is coming up in 2000km.
