420 SEL kick down adjust procedure?

The bolt came loose on the throttle linkage and slid enough that I can't tell where it was. How is this set?

if you pop off the linkage and turn it over chances are good that you will see a mark where it was once set.failing that it can be done by the seat of your pants.i find the easiest way is to set it up [WARM ENGINE] so that when you slow down to go around a 90deg corner[city driving]that a reasonable application of throttle will make trans drop down a gear.lengthening linkage results in very quick upshifts to 4th and shortening will make the gears hold until higher speed reached.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the problem early enough and the loose adjusting bolt allowed the two pieces to slide back and forth against each other long enough to remove any marks of previous location. I thought the linkage bracket was flexing and was looking for evidence of that.

There is an exact procedure. Basically one is adjusting the rod such that the bellcrank it pulls, tightens and starts pulling the cable with the onset of throttle movement. Start there and season to taste. Shorter shifts later longer shifts earlier.

Thanks, I'll start that way.
