1996 s320 with 149,000
If I let off the accelerator at the shift point in gears 2/3 and 3/4 the trans will shift reasonably well. it will also kickdown without issue. If I drive normaly the trans will flare all day long in 2/3 and 3/4. Any thoughts?

Possibly a modulator issue.. would try a turn OR 1.5 turn in on the adjustment.
