190e 16v timing chain cover removal
hi all,
1991 190e 2.5 16v following on from a thread on the uk site where i described a not to clever sound on turnover....i got the car back to my house and popped the rocker cover off.. not good, one of the chain guides has broken into several pieces, the knocking noise when cranking was the bits rattling round the rocker cover - at least i know what it is now! on closer inspection the chain has also skipped a tooth, so it going o get a chain, tensioner and all the guide rails - i'll clean all the little bits out as i have to strip the font of the engine apart....nothing 'up top' seems damaged, it hasn't run like this so hoping no damage, wont know till i've done the job and run a compression check.... i'm pretty sure its the bottom rail/s as the top one seems to be in perfect shape! i suppose that one was changed with the chain last time as its eay to get to.. well....whipped the cams and caps out....fished out a few bits of broken guide rail, turns out the top ones damaged as well...took the cams out and secured chain, sls pump removed....now i am stuck.... question is: i have done a couple of chains/tensioners/upper guide rails, but never a lower guide rail, what do i have to remove to get to it, how hard is it and what special tools, if any, do i need? right then - what next?! ideally need a guide as to what order to remove things in, am particualry worried about moving main crank pulley and how to do that and what possible problems i might have with the timing of the engine, if any? any help or guidance appreciated thanks
