In Car Heater Problems

Hope someone can help?
Our Mercedes E320...seems to have problems with the in car heater.
It works intermittently, or not at all.
Could this be a simple fuse problem, or likely to be something more serious?
Any help greatly appreciated.

What year is the car? Do you have the pushbutton control unit (N22)? If so, you can extract codes from it.
