PCV system on a 2.3L 1984 190E?
Im new with the care and feeding of a Mercedes. Everything I have done so far has made the old girl run better and better.
Im used to old American V8's, etc, and am wondering how the crankcase ventilation is handled on the 102 engines? Some of the molded plastic hoses on the injection system are hard. Should I be thinking about replacing these pieces? Is this the PCV system, too? I thank you in advance, Bruce

PCV on that engine is done thru an orifice at the middle of the intake. there are rubber hoses that connect to that fitting & they also connect to the air filter & valve cover.

Thanks for the fast reply!
I think I am in the market for several molded hoses, as mine are awfully hard, and the one connected to the valve cover--to the right and slightly behind the oil filler, is hard and leaking oil on the engine. This is the one that also connects to the air cleaner. I need to look further into the engine on this car, as it has come to my attention that this may not be the original engine. The A/C compressor is installed on the passenger side of the engine, and the bracket that holds the power steering unit appears to have been replaced at some point. My owners manual says that my car, built in 3/84, should have V belts. Mine has a single flat belt, and the threading of the belt is different from what my Haynes manual shows. Haynes shows the A/C compressor installed under the PS pump. Do I need to be terribly concerned? Or, did Mercedes make lots of changes during production? My local MB dealer is being very helpful, so far, but he cant do more than get me parts at this time. I am in the process of having 2 keys made for this car thru him. Sorry for the long posts, and multiple questions. This car is almost ready to be tagged and driven. I want to make sure everything is safe and working properly. Thanks, Bruce

Congratualtions on your purchase.
Over time, I suspect you will find more information on these boards than at the dealership. Parts are also cheaper through the forum. Good luck with your MB

Hi Lee,
I notice from your signature that you have a 1989 300CE like me. Could you tell where are the PCV and the charcoal canister of M103.983 ? Thanks!

Hi Lee!
Thanks for your reply, too! You are not too far from me. I plan to do alot of parts buying thru this forum. The only things I have bought thru the dealer are a couple of electrical parts for the interior of the car. Its gonna be a sweet ride. Hopefully, the gas mileage will be sweet too. Thanks! Bruce
