I have an 87 300e with 92000 miles, runs excellent, but sometimes when i need to jet out, or pass someone, it doesn't kick down, it does pick up speed, but very slowly.
This does not happen all the time, out of every ten tries, i would say 3 failed. I mean i will floor it and it just doesn't knock me back like i am used to, someone suggested the fuel filter, but could it be something else?

You could have the bowden cable a little on the loose side. I would give it a turn or so.

I think the kick down switch is on the floor under the tip of the gas pedal. A carpet, mat or other foreign material may occationally be blocking the pedal from pressing down on the switch.
