Question 1983 280SE transmission issues

I just purchased an 83 280SE, for a fair price. i'm in love with the boat, it's an awesome ride and it has stock everything for the most part, it was well treated. One of it's issues is the trans. it slips but it still runs just fine, it actually picks up speed pretty good. so I do not know if i should try to rebuild the tranny or just leave it as is, it runs good just gotta treat the gas as a standard.

I would like to know if this car is W123 or W126, I am a bit confused about that. Also, since this is an euro version where would i be able to get the parts i need to tune it. I live in central MA, in case anyone knows any local spots.

Thank you

From the sales designation it would be a 126 body. The parts in most cases are similar to UIS models you just need to know which ones. For engine and fuel system parts it would be similar to US 280E models to 1979. For most other issues it will be like a 380SE or 300SD. You will need to find someone who knows his business to ID parts OR you could go to www.startekinfo.com and subscribe to the parts online section. I forget hiw much but it is less than $30 a year. If you chose world coverage it will give you look up capabilities of your exact euro model by chassis number.

Thanks for clearing things up a bit. so you are saying that i can't use part from 280e up to 1979 or from 79 on? I checked into startekinfo, the membership is almost 3000 dollars! I think it's better i find someone that know his business, i'll keep looking around.

Thank you for the input, it was very helpful.

Well you didn't look hard enough.

The service info site is $3000 but the parts site is less than $30. If you look again go to the parts link on the upper header bar.

Actually I'll save you the trouble of looking as that link will take you here:

http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/welcome.jsp

Turns out it is $24 a year.
