head gasket replacement on a '96 C36
I'm planning to have the head gasket replaced on my '96 C36 and I'd like to know what else should i look out / change while the cylinder head is out. The mechanic suggested that the chain and tensioner should be replaced also along with the spark plugs and valve cover gasket set. The car has 152,000 miles and still runs strong! The leak just bothers me because of the burning oil smell but otherwise it's not that bad.
thanks! |

Lots of things to inspect when doing a head gasket
Inspect the timing chain for stretch BEFORE the head is removed Inspect the chain rails..Now is the time Replace all rear coolant hoses..Easy to get at with the head off Clean the EGR pipe as they plug up With the Miles I Would recommend a Compression AND Leakdown test on a warm engine...To Test for loss of sealing on the Valves..(Valve Job) Make sure the mechanic gets a AMG headgasket seen several people use a 104 Non AMG Headgasket
