300-24 Springs

Dear all,

I am located in São paulo Brazil and have just purchased a 91 300E-24. I am finding the suspension a bit harder than other 300E's and CE's I have driven.

Question: Does anyone know if 300E-24's came from the factory with "red" marked springs? I realize these are the heavy duty ones however on the options list, the car was NOT ordered with code 482 (heavy duty suspension).

The part number for the front springs according to the EPC is 124 321 22 04 which I checked with a local dealer in Los Angeles and they are "blue"coded.

My car has "red" coded springs all around with comfort Bilsteins in the front and HD in the back. If the car came with HD springs from the factory because it is a 24V, then I should replace the front shocks with HD and live with the harder suspension, BUT if at some point someone replaced the springs, then I would like to return it to original specs with blue springs and comfort Bilsteins all around.

Can anyone help please.

Tks a lot,

Joe

Sportline Suspension?

Sounds like the Sportline suspension package to me. Chassis sits 1 in lower than stock.

Dear Stoney,

Tks for the reply, but the car does not have the Sportline package which includes 205/60-15 tires, 8 hole alloys and lower suspension as you mentioned.

Regards,

Joe

Tom, I agree with you. However it would be nice to know how the car was configured in the first place. I get the feeling that because of the poor road conditions we have here in Brazil, MB ended up fitting most of their cars sent here with the HD suspension as a default wether the customer ordered it or not.

I am looking at other 124's from Club members and friends to see what kind of springs/shocks they have installed. Would anyone give an opinion regarding Bilstein HD's in the front as well? Could it be that because the springs are HD and the shocks comfort, the spring re-coil when going over rough roads is giving the impression of a rough ride? Any opinions?

Tks a lot,

Joe
