My 'new' 86 560SEL

Just purchased 86 560SEL with 53K miles. Blue interior is just great with no cracks on dash or wood. Silver exterior looks great, not sure if it's a repaint or not. If it is, it's a really good job.

What would you do to it as far as maintenance? I believe it was sitting a lot for the last ten years. There is a lube sticker on the door jamb from 1997 when it had 32,000 miles.

It runs so quiet compared to my two 300SD's, but doesn't get near the fuel mileage. Got 18mpg on my first tank, mostly highway driving.

New battery, belts, tires, flush all fluids, change all filters, new spark plugs.

Thats where I would start.

Sounds like a fantastic car, with lots of mileage left in it.

18 mpg is about tops for this car. They sip the premium gas, too, but if you use the Chevron with the techron, it really does save the injectors on them.

The items that Hatterasguy suggest are good starts, to take care of it, and then, purchase an owners manual - cheap on ebay or from the dealer, and follow the recommendations, in it, and also take a look in www.mbcoupes.com (the buyers guide there, scroll down) it has some tips on taking care of the car, what you should do. I'd definately suggest in addition to all of that, change your wiper blades, they probably are rotten.

Have the flex discs inspected, and otgher rubber parts that could just deteriorate with simple age.

These cars do like to run on the highway, you'll really enjoy it. The '86 was the first year of the gentle restyle of the car, except for the lack of a passenger airbag, and the different upholstery pattern, it's pretty much the same as a 1991 car would look.
