1991 300e coolant leak
i got a 1991 300e and whenever i park it like after im off the highway, i come back and see a puddle of coolant under the passenger side of the engine compartment. doesnt look like its coming from the actual engine.
seems like its coming down from the lower control arm area. could it be the heater core? |

water pump
i think if it was the water pump it would show up on the drivers side.

Mine used to do the same thing. If I am not mistaken, there is an overflow bottle of some sort behind the right front wheel well and the water you see could be coming from there. Mine stopped doing this after I changed the coolant. Unless you have to top up the water reservoir then its probably not the water pump.

yep, better check the top radator hose to see if there is excess pressure. then pray.

Coolant leaking from the passenger side of the engine block could be a leaky head gasket. Be sure to eliminate your other options first (leaky hoses, etc) as a head gasket replacement isn't cheap.

Check for mayo around the oil cap.

Best way to find a coolant leak that isn't glaringly obvious is to go to one of the mass-marketers like Auto Zone and rent a cooling system pressure tester.
The test is performed on a cool motor; pressure is applied and the coolant will begin to flow from wherever it's leaking. Lots of yack about this using this sites SEARCH facility or googling it on the WEB.

today it never leaked, i noticed it only leaked after i got off the highway and parked infront of my house. i checked the oil, seems clear and clean ( no coolant mixed) and i dont think its coming from the engine. might be the overfill , but i will get it checked out tomorrow b/ci am changing the rear wheel bearing.
is there a way to adjust the transmission shifting, b/c it seems like its shifting too soon into second gear and third. |
