Electronic Speedo, (from mid 80's)
Hi,
I have an AMG W124 with a M117 engine block and S Class (W126) Gearbox. The speedo+mileometer has just stopped working and thinking it was a standard W124 speedo problem I took the car into my local Merc specialist who pulled the instrument binacle and promtly told me, "Sorry, can't/don't want to help" as it appears that my W124 has an electronic speedo and my Merc specialist does not have a wiring diagram as its a bespoke wiring system on my car Can anybody tell me what I/auto electrican should be checking out for....ie gearbox pickup?...is there a speedo relay in the system?...if so where do you think its likely to be hiding? Lastly, if the instrument cluster has broken can they be repaired, ie if its a fault in the printed circuit....the instrument panel on my car is an AMG item so I don't want to have to get rid of it. By the way everything else in the instrument panel works, ie rev counter, oil pressure etc. Any help would be greatfully received.
