Today, while at my tech's shop, a '95 E320 drove in with some 'drive' problems.

He said . . "it was thumping alot a few days ago but then it stopped". Car has 120K miles and the "part" is original. We put the car on the rack. . . and here's what we saw. . .

Are you ready??? Hard to belive you could still drive the car. . . :laugh3:

The picture shows it in contrast to a new one! . . . thousands of nylon 'strings'! . . .

A flex disk with a bad hair day. I thought they crumbled.

Looks like a deranged party favor!

Great chuckle on a Friday afternoon.

good day

Actually, if that's all you saw, it was an exceptionally good day. Caught it in the nick of time. World of hurt when they fail.

Flex Disk/Transmission Mount

Hey Guys, Just replaced my Transmission mount and earlier this yr my motor mounts. After replacing my Tranny mount I get a slight noise from under the car. It sounds like a slight rubbing sound (not good at describing sounds) I hear it particularly good when I let off the gas and coast to a stop light. No noise in Park or neutral. My first thought is that the new mount may be rubbing the flex disc and as of today have not got back under the car to look at the flex disc and I didn't look at it after changing the tranny mount. Would it be possible that the flex disc is rubbing the Tranny mount as drive shaft spins. Unfortunately I bought China made tranny mount. Car has 140K miles and 2000 C230K. Thanks for letting me pick your brain.

Signs of minor wear but plenty of mileage left in that!!

First thing, do a visual on the mount and flex disc and see IF they are rubbing. Might be the part, might be the labor...

Second, cheapo aftermarket parts are a bad investment....

Don't worry, that's just a flex disc entering puberty.
