How to diagnose leaky water pump? m111

Well, I knew it had a leak due to crustiness on the underside of the upper radiator hose, but yesterday I smelled coolant and found a green puddle in the belly pan. The hose seems fine, and in fact, I've never seen it wet, just crusty. There is some crust all the way down over the belt and alternator pulley, and the water pump. I truly cannot see where it is coming from. I suspect the crust UNDER the hose is being slung upward by the drive belt. When I had it in fr service a few weeks ago the shop did a "courtesy" leak test when the motor was warm and could not find the leak. I'm guessing it's the water pump, but what's the sure-fire way to determine it? I have to carry it in Thurs as I am losing a fair amount of coolant (and it's 100* outside), but the last thing I want is my car stuck in the shop and me beholden to the dealer for a $400 water pump. I would rather carry in a fastlane water pump, but I don't want to order one unless I need it. Dilemmas........

Also, I was shocked to see green coolant. The only 2 places to touch my coolant was the shop who did the head gasket 2.5 years ago, and the one who spotted a leak - and they are both MB dealer service departments.
