Engine Light

The engine light came on my 2000 sl yesterday
I pulled the battery cable of and it went out
It has not come on since
Is this code stored in the system?
Or am I kiding my self and the problem is still there and will be back
Is there any way to read the codes without going to dealer and not spending a fortune ?
I bought the new cd for it
Did not find the spot were the codes are listed for the engine.
I would appreciate any help
Is the OBD11 scanner good for 2000 sl500
I am searching old threads also

If there is an emission related problem the light will come back ON.

NOT a good idea to disconnect the battery on SL's.. the computers don't like that!

Have seen ODB2 readers as low as $50 & higher.. any should provide codes.

90% of ODB2 codes are emission related. The rest are trans & traction system related.

One more question
When engine light comes on Does the computer send the engine into limp mode
Meaning does it not perform with o2 sensor like older cars???

I've done a search and can't find the code list from about 4 years ago that I saw posted. I can't even remember who posted it. My '91 300SE has a box on the passenger side firewall with an LED that flashes the codes for the check engine light. I can reset it here too and light goes out, does anyone have the code list, so many flashes means a particular problem. This is in a 91 126 not a '92 as someone thought back then.

Wonderful car I have, I'm just fixing the things that have worn out over the last 16 years, it will still run over 125 MPH (only second time I've done that) and the A/C still works.
