I have a 1981 240D with a weeping steering box. Very slow leak, and the steering is still tight. I have the kit to do the reseal. Purchased the Haynes manual - no help.
I am an above average DIY (multiple engine rebuilds - German, British, Japanese, complete restorations, etc.) and would like to do this myself. Need some help with the following: 1. Can this be done by careful disassembly and re-assembly without a service manual? 2. Are there special adjustments/tolerances/settings required during re-assembly? Special tools? 3. Does the factory manual (now only available on CD) have detailed instructions on this procedure? If not, where can I find this information? 4. What are the gotchas? Thanks for the help. Chris |
