Whoop fast strong but warm or hot...not so good I'll have to see if the quick try to stat again works I;m still new to the car & trying to find what will work. Luckily say of I need gas I go to the corner & get it Car hasn't been run long Luckily both times it started fine at the pump as I hate to be stuck there cranking. All other times after a short run car is always over 85 as it runs hot It's hard to start 20 min an hour even 2 hours Lots of cranking I don't want to crank away the battery & starter the 83 manual specifies if it doesn't start right up on a hot start to depress acelerator a bit. So I have been trying that Still alot of cranking Yesterday 2nd warm start was a long one Couldn't get it so sat a while then tried again Still stubborn caught once then stalled Finally got it...phew From what I have heard it could be old leaky injectors that leak when warm settin gup a flooded situation... Other problem I have not sure if it could be related I have a hi idle start in park Start 1200 rising to 1500 as it warms then comes down to 900 1000 But on drive its 650 700 so its perfect Runs strong & smooth No problem at all Yesterday it was amazing cept for restarting ????

Well, back to the same problem. Now the car is hard to start when it is warm, hesitates when the car is warm (but not when cold) from a stop, and occasionally idles roughly.
The car runs flawlessly at speed - no problems. Cold starts are flawless. The first trip of the day is great but performance gets worse as the trips are more frequent (car is warmer). I was told by the dealer that the car has a "lazy oxygen sensor". Any ideas? |

I have been pressing the pedal halfway down when starting and that seems to help somewhat. Won't start on the first start no matter what except when cold.
This also seems to have helped with the rough idle and hesitation issues as well. I do notice that when the car is idling, the "economy" gauge is not pegged all the way to the left as it used to be. Is all the way to the left when coasting. Any ideas? |

Update
Same problems as before - hard to start, etc. but is now acting as if it is flooding out when starting - but not always. I have recently replaced the fuel accumulator and the fuel governor with no positive results.....
Most times the car will start without a hitch but occasionally it will start but stumble and the black smoke (ie: fuel rich) will roll out of the tailpipe - then it will die as if it is flooding. Someone suggested it was a mechanical issue as this only occurs maybe once a day and it occurs both on cold starts and hot starts and is very sporadic. I can usually wait 5 minutes and start the car and it is if there is no problem at all. Any ideas? This has gone on for almost 5 months.... |

The fuel distributor is worn or the Air flap bearing which pushes against the fuel distributors plunger has seized. The engine is getting fuel but not air.

hard to start when warm can be injectors leaking and causing rich mixture. If holding the throttle open helps, this is because more air is allowed in and the mixture is somewhat corrected. Have the injectors checked or replaced.
