2001 c320 Electronic issue (help!)

Hey folks. I changed my battery yesterday and yes this is something I have done many times over the course of my life. disconnect the neg. first and reconnect the neg. last. Well now the fuel guage reads "0" wipers, sunscreen, turn signals, trunk release are all now inopertive!
I read that this is not the first time this has occured. It seems that I may have blown up the rear SAM unit in the trunk? If this is the case what did I do wrong? Where do I buy a SAM? How do I troubleshoot this?
Thanks for any and all advise..

Have you checked all of your fuses?

I've read several posts about battery replacement. There seems to be a trend where is you disconnect the old, swap in the new, and strange things happen. My owners manual talks about a list of functions that might have to be reset. When I replaced the cruise control switch my battery was disconnected overnight, when I hooked it up everything worked fine, just had to reset the radio code. I believe it has to do with inturupting power and the "computers" still having date stored, which get corupted when you reconnect. I'd try diconnecting the batter for several hours, or overnight, then connecting agin to see what happens. Good Luck, Chuck

The Benz shop ususally hooks a computer up to the car after changing the battery to re-set things...

unfortunately the sam[rear]will be your problem.these units are relatively cheap from benz[you get what would normally be about 600 worth of electronics for about half].you would have had to hook up a battery jump box to prevent this and it still may have gone belly up down the road.the good news is that these units are plug and play.
