w140 armrest

the spring that holds the armrest cover is possibly broken. At least the small 'clip' that holds the top down will not spring back. Is there a way to access that small part to repair/replace the sprin? I have lookes at that part witha bright light and can not see any access point to th einside. There is nothing under that part either. Thanks, Michael
