what burns when you misplace clapms on jump start

Hi guys,

I have a chance to buy a 1996 s500 that does not start. Seller states that he gave someone a jump start and another guy swapped positive and negative leads on the battery. Seller says that when leads were connected his car stalled and now cannot start.

What can be damaged when something like this happen?

I'm sure there is a fuse somewhere, battery probably blew.

Probably the car has a main fusible link, that is there for just such an occasion and which blew. Find it and replace it.

There is an overload protection "fuse" in these cars.....in the fuse box.
Essentially protects electronics from stupidity.

Take a look in the module box under the hood on the passengers' side. The Base Module is responsible for over-voltage protection. It's basically a glorified OVP among other things. It has five fuses. Check these first.
