When I shut the car off the Airbag light stays on, even when I take the key out and lock up the car. I dont know if this is coincidence or not, but the alarm is now going off after a couple of minutes setting it. And I dont know why the airbag light would stay on after shutting the car down (by the way , the airbag light goes OFF after starting the car)

So the alarm just goes off, for no reason at all, on a regular basis. I can shut it off, then after a few minutes it will go off. Even if I dont turn on the alarm, but just lock my doors with the key, it goes off. The only remedy is to leave the car with the doors unlocked, and the alarm off, not a good thing in NYC. As you can tell this is kind of an emergency...help !!

Any clues?

It might be that someone mixed up the bulbs and did not put them in the proper hole. In this case, it could be another system that the light is on for.

hmm

The SRS light has always worked perfectly. When I turn the car on the SRS light stays on for a couple of seconds, then turns off. When I used to turn the car off the SRS light goes off just like all the other dash sensor lights.

Thats the weird part. The SRS light still goes off after a couple of seconds with the car being turned on. But once I turn the car completely off the SRS light stays lit until I turn the car back on.

No one has done any kind of work to the dashboard, instrument cluster, or SRS system of any kind.

Spinedoc,
I think by what you are saying that your alarm is aftermarket... if this is the case, I doubt it's related. Do you have an alarm manual? You can find out what set the alarm off. What kind of alarm do you have? Maybe I can help. Or your alarm could be tripping because it senses the open circuit... the SRS light (it should bypass, but it might not).
I would take the car to see if there are any codes.... bizarre problem though... (?)

Is the alarm factory or aftermarket? If it is the factory alarm it is very possible that one of the switches has gone bad telling the control unit that the vehicle has been entered into when it has not. This is not an uncommon problem. The quickest remedy is to disconnect the alarm control unit.

Try removing fuse number two and see if the SRS light goes off when the key is off. Also see if it then goes on with the key on.

yes

Yes the SRS light goes off when I pull that fuse. It stays off until I place the fuse back in.

This whole thing is really weird. The dealership tested the SRS system and said that it tested 100% fine, but they could not reset the SRS system for some reason. The car has NOT been in an accident. Basically now the dealership says they have no idea, and inform me that it would take many hours of diagnostics with their special "diagnostician", who by the way only comes in one day per week. At $75 an hour I am not looking forward to this, but I also dont want an unsafe SRS system.

Weird stuff.

It only took a short look at the power distribution on a wiring diagram to guess where the fault was coming (#2 fuse).

My next guess without reviewing is that the power seat diode is bad.

This diode is involved with the ability for the seats to be adjusted with the key off when the door is open.

The key here with the fuse is that the fuse is not involved with the SRS system.

update

Steve I have a feeling you are right on the money, although I am still baffled.

Yesterday I found a big puddle of water under the seats, although it has not rained here. I have been told that the air condenser has a run off tube that sometimes back up into the firewall, causing run off to deposit under the seats.

I am having all sorts of electrical problems, SRS, now the horn, alarm, AC fan. I can only assume the car is shorting out something under the seats or maybe under the console.

One thing on that seat diode, the seats still move if the car is off.

Thanks much.

The power seat diode (V1) is a two prong little box in the fuse/relay box. It is in the row closest to the fender and is at the end toward the cabin. It is next to the lighting module. The part is # 000 540 42 81 and lists for around $7.25.

It should pull straight out and be easily testable with an ohmmeter. It is the relationship between the diode and the bulb lighting through fuse 2 that makes this logical. Anything that accidentally made fuse 2 or 1 hot with term 15 off (key off) would turn on the light. The Diode just makes sense as the other users have no logical way to backfeed.
