W124 brake pads - Pagid,Mintex,Textar ?
I need new pads for my '90 300E. What is the best pad for good stopping performance and least dust generation, the Pagids, Mintex, or Textar?

Andy, brake pads which provide excellent braking performance produce brake dust because they're soft enough to stop your car without the power assist ... such as in an emergency situation when the engine dies. Harder composition brake pads which produce less brake dust will not perform as well, and will likely wear the rotors prematurely. If you drive conservatively install Kleen Wheels to keep brake dust off your wheels. I use them on our MB automobiles without any adverse effects. Although some folks will recount horror stories of warped rotors and degraded braking performance resulting from Kleen Wheels. I use Textar brake pads exclusively.

Try a search - you can read for days. I've been round and round on this and come back to PBR Deluxe.

I went back to Textars since they are OE. I can live with the dust. ![]()

I have had PBR Deluxe pads on my ML for close to 25K and they are still fairly thick, work well, don't squeal and don't seem to wear the rotor much at all. I will stick with them for all my cars, based on their performance on my ML.

Opinions on ceramic pads-
Has anyone tried ceramic pads? PBR Ultimates, Akebono, or Porterfield? All claim better wear, no noise/squeal, and dramatically lower amounts of brake dust. User experience?!

The PBR Deluxe are the old formula, the new one is called Axxis Deluxe Plus or Axxis Deluxe Advanced.
