New Front End & Alignment and Still Wearing Tires???
Hey all,
I've got a major issue w/ my '91 300E. Out of the blue I started getting some very loud wheel noise on the highway one day. No major incident; no potholes, curbs, debris, etc. It's the left front tire and the wear is very obvious on the inside edge of the tire. So I took it to the dealer for an alignment and they wouldn't touch it w/o replacing both Tie-Rod Assemblies and the Drag Link & Shock. (Both Front Shocks, both Front Wheel Bearings, and the left Ball Joint were replaced around X-Mas last year.) So the Tie-Rods, etc were replaced and when the alignment re-commenced it turned out, of course, that the Control Arm Bolts were frozen, so I had to throw another $900 at getting them hacked out and replaced (new Bushings too while they were in there). Then they finally got the alignment done. Long story short, the noise & tire wear still exist. Any ideas what could be causing my continued headache? What is the F is there left to replace? I have had nothing but nightmares with the local dealer. I have to fight and claw just to get my car looked at. It's one of the more elite dealerships in the country, in one of the most affluent areas (they got 2 or 3 of the new Black Series coupes...), so they have no respect for my 'old' w124. I'm obviously going to have to go back, but I need to be as educated as possibly to get these bastards to even talk to me (and I'm no louse, I've been wrenching on Germans since I was 13yrs old). Any help on where else to look for this problem? -Matthew-
