2004 E320 Wagon Sport
Long time no post from me. I guess all is well so far.
Just fell in love with a 04 E320 Wagon Sport. It has the real SPORT pkg. 59K mls. quite clean, single owner, 21K OTD. You can see at this link below. I live near by so I was able to test drive it. http://www.europeanwholesale.us/cgi-bin/showroom.cgi?mode=show&id=17932&d_id=1062 Question is: (I have always shied away from the MB air suspension and self leveling, although my old 560SEL had a hydro-pneumatic version and it was not complicated at all, compared to my Citroens I had before) This one has 3 dampening settings, 2 vehicle ride heights and self leveling. All electronic of course. Are these things problematic? Durability issues? I realize the shocks are expensive. They work fine, but I am scared a bit. The car drives fine and shifts fine too. It seems to be a good deal. All book and records. One long key scratch on the drivers side. Any advice? What to look for. Thanks in advance.

Mino, check the suggested selling price at kbb.com to confirm that you're getting a good deal. Their value may be worthwhile to negotiate a better deal.

I don't know what changes they made to the rear suspension on these things, but the self-level on my 1998 wagon is neither complicated or expensive. I would do all I could, however, to find out the service history of that wagon. 2004 was a problem year, and just seeing the oil changes wouldn't be enough for me. Make sure you run it past an MB dealer for an inspection and a service history.
That car looks beautiful.

$21K sure sounds low for an 04. Definately check Edmunds and KBB, but also search completed auctions on Ebay and asking prices at some of the online spots such as traderonline.
Sounds like this car has airmatic. I'd expect the rear suspension setup is completely different than the older wagons. Through the 210 chassis the wagon used the same basic self leveling design in back with hydraulic struts, accumulators, level control valve, and springs. Same setup as your 560. Not sure what MB implemented on the 211 wagon. - JimY |
