NADA or KBB.com for used price.

Edmunds.com for rating. If you can navigate their websites.

Good luck!

Very nice car. That has a dohc v8 which was much better than the M113 that they used in the 210 later. Make sure you can get all the service records for the vehicle any authorized mb dealer should be able to provide you with those records just give them the vin# and tell them that you want them to service the vehicle for you. Dont listen to the troll skid row joe.

P.S. Make sure the transmission shifts nice.

They are fairly good, though probably a little too old to find their way onto Mercedes Benz where they could be sold as certified pre owned.

That means you need to inspect it VERY carefully, best by a professional mechanic who is familiar with them. if it is being offered by a private party or a non Mercedes Benz car dealer. Avoid refugees from freeway pileups and rust cars, or any that show neglect, in lack of repairs, or maintenance.

Having books and records is a great plus in that situation, to see how the car has been kept up. I hope you realize that with these, there can be issues, such as rust, bad spring perches, electrical and computer problems, as the quality control and build quality is generally believed worse than the W124 model run, that preceded this one.

A good '99 E420 will be very fast, confortable, roomy and pleasant to cruise in. 90k is very acceptable mileage for a car that old. Aggressive bargaining might yield a good deal on it, as the market is not especially "hot" for cars with big V8 motors on them, these days....

Frankly, the '87 300E is a Mercedes Benz with a far better reputation than the W210 you are looking at, with respect to quality control, build quality, logevity and durability, simplicity and ease of maintenance.

If yours is not a basket case, and the mileage is under 200,000 it might make a lot of sense to just fix it and keep it.

There is no such thing as a 1999 E420, 97 was the last year, or it's a 430.

If I want to bay a V8 I'd consider 500 not 420. It's more powerful and not a big difference on gas consumption.

There is no 500 E-class in that era. You can't buy what they didn't build.

Jugo, thanks for the help. Purchased 1997 E420 very nice car. Really a lucky brake. (But, I sure we both know that MB can create its own kid of luck at times.) Car had been damaged but repaired with a slight color imperfection on the damaged area. I had a PPI and frame, alignment check. Everything is ok. Only 90,000 miles. If I learn how to post pics I wil.
Thanks

Congratulations!!! I hope to be able to move out of the 80's soon and get a newer MB. I still won't sell my 300E. I regret selling the 85 300CD we used to have. I was thinking about an ML, but I'm now thinking I want to stay with a sedan. Maybe an AWD one. We'll see how this month goes at work!
