Took out instrument cluster, now no cruise control or ABS!
Hello,
Recently I took out the instrument cluster in my 1992 400E to replace the lights in it and now I have no cruise control or ABS. When I took the cluster out I left the battery connected and had to drive for about a week with it out as well. I tried to use the cruise control when the cluster was removed and it didn't work, I figured that it used the speed from the cluster and that's why it didn't work, thinking it would work once the cluster would be installed, but nope. I've checked the fuses and they're all good. I've heard the cruise control amp goes out on these cars, so maybe I blew it out, but I also heard that the V8 model 124's like mine use a different system. As for the ABS, the light comes on when I apply the brakes, and stays on until the car is shut off and restarted, but then comes on once the brakes are touched again, so it's pretty much always on. When I was driving the car with the cluster out I was driving in the rain and slammed on the brakes a couple of time, I couldn't feel the ABS go off, so I know it's not working. I really don't know what the issue could be, if both problems are directly related to me driving the car with the cluster removed, possibly blowing the two systems out, then that's a really stupid decision I made. If anyone can help me with this or suggest anything to find the cause please let me know, thanks in advance!

It's possible that the Hall Effect speed sensor on the back of the speedo is not hook up correctly. That would explain the cruise not working, although I'm not sure about the abs. I thought the ABS only used the speed sensors on the wheels.
Anyone know anymore?

I also thought that I might have not hooked up all the wires correctly, or forgot to plug in some of the wires, so I took the cluster back out and made sure that all the wires were plugged into the correct locations and were securely fastened. They were all good, no issues. Everything in the cluster works fine, all the gauges and warning lights.
That leaves these two problems to something else, something that I just cannot figure out, I really don't see how the taking out the instrument cluster can affect the cruise control and ABS. Someone has to know, HELP!

Here is something that happened to me and worth checking on your part. I spent several weeks trying to Diog. why my ABS light was coming on......until I noticed my 3rd brake light was out AND when putting the cluster back in I put mistaking swapped the "light out" indicator and the "ABS" light on the cluster.
