Timing Chain

87 560sel w126
250000 miles
Chain very loose

engine "bound" up then broke free, turns freely now with front socket set up

timing with both cam marks aligned, 7-8 degrees late

Could it had "skipped" a tooth with this timing??

looks as if all rails I can see are in tact.

Was runnig good before went to start it again and would not turn over in fact striped bendex gear on starter.

What gives??

Oh, just went through two starters (grinding)

Do I need to remove the front cover and how much of a job is this??

John
