W124 Floor heat problem
While driving the wife's '87 300TD home from the annual holiday trip to the big city I noticed I had cold feet. Upon inspection I discovered there was no heat coming from the floor registers. Plenty coming out of the dash ones though.
Any thoughts, insights?

Most likely it's a bad vacuum element "pod" for the footwell vent flaps. If it's like my 94 e320, you remove the radio to access it. Some models have two. Check the vacuum feed from the controller [behind glove box] and also if the element itself itself holds vac. MB defaults to defrost & side vents only. You should still get AC through center vents.

Bob is correct. You should have 2 pods that are easy to get to. Does the passenger side have heat? If those are your only 2 that are worn out consider yourself very lucky. The other 5 take just a tad longer to get to.
This thread should help. W124 climate control vacuum pod replacement Chris

Probably that both floor pods are worn out. Those are the easiest to get to. The defrost is the default position, so that is why you are getting heat there. The climate control unit(CCU) also go bad, so you probably want to rule that out as well. Can you pull the glove box and test the system per the instructions in the thread I sent you?

Some of the '87 model year cars have only a single vacuum pod to actuate the floor flaps. It depends when in the model year the car was manufactured. My '87 wagon had a single pod. It was a late build, as I recall.

You are right. I forgot about that. I don't remember what the cut off was, but they did go to the single floor pod.
