I replaced the complete assembly of my broken rear view mirror with another from an earlier MB model from the junk yard. The mounting plate and neck are a bit smaller than the stock mirror of the 300E. The junk yard morror mounts OK but does not have the full range of adjustment needed for my height.
I can pull the ball joint and neck out of the junk yard mirror and replace that ball and neck with my stock ball and neck... which will give me a funtioning rear view mirror that fits the car. My question is: Can the ball of the neck be inserted back into the rear of the mirror without breaking the mirror? Possibly grease the socket before attempting to pop it back in again? Smiles.

Hi ejsharp.
Go ahead and try it! The worst that can happen is that you break the mirror. A spanking new unit is $35 at FASTLANE. Good luck.
