1990 190e Check Engine Light Doesn't Come On

I have recently taken my car to get smogged and I failed because my check engine light doesn't work. Does anyone know how to replace the bulb??

you have to pull the instrument cluster... i think there is a write up..

you have to loosen the speedometer cable under the front rug... then make or get some tools to pull the cluster....then reach your hand behind there and unscrew the speedometer at the cluster.

that should give you enough room to pull out the cluster a bit and replace the bulb..

however... i find it odd that a seldom used bulb would burn out...

Doesn't it come on every time you start?

If you are under there, you should replace all the warning lights as they are probably all the same age...maybe even the dash lights (3, I think).

Maybe the previous owner of the car removed the bulb in order to hide the o2 sensor problem. You need to pull out the instrument panel.

i believe also if the ov relay is bad or the fuse is blown the light will also not illuminate, on this model if you remove the cluster you need to disconnect the speedometer cable at the transmission, this model does not have the seperator under the floor mat, if you do not do this the cable housing will stretch and cause the speedometer not to work
