Clicking noise every 5 seconds after start up

I have a 2002 C240 and for the past few weeks (not sure if it's because of the cold weather) it has been clicking rythmically every 5 seconds for approximately a minute after I turn the ignition. It is almost like it's behind the middle console or under the gear shifter or something. I think it may have something to do with the A/C because if the A/C is on in the first minute, it blows a blast of air every time it clicks. It is sooo annoying, but I'm afraid there is a bigger problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thanks!

The W203 chassis have problems with the footwell stepper motor levers breaking.

MOST likely your car has that problem. Part is cheap...$10 list...but labor is high..5.5-6 hrs.

The important thing is to identify which stepper motor is making the noise. This will determine how long it will take to fix. Some require quite a bit of disassembly, others not so much. A shop equipped with SDS can tell you which one is malfunctioning. Keep in mind that the problem may only be the linkage arm on the motor, not the motor itself.

Dumb question: What does a footwell stepper motor do?

ON earlier MB's there are vacuum actuators for moving A/C system doors (flaps) to their position. Starting with the ML & as models were replaced..MB started using electric motor with feedback info to move those doors.

The foot well motor(S) move a door to allow HEAT onto a drivers or passenger foorwell area. The C240 W203.061 has only 1 door, therefore 1 motor. The C320 W203.064 has dual controls so therefore 2 doors & 2 motors.
