Dealer Quote for 500E SLS Repair

Here's the quote I got from the dealer:

Part List Net Total
Hose, hyrdr $124.60 $89.00 $89.00
Hose, VLrub $133.00 $95.00 $95.00
Rubber bus $36.30 $22.00 $44.00 (2)
Hydropneu shocks $577.50 $525.00 $1050.00 (2)
Air reserv (cells) $195.75 $145.00 $290.00 (2)

Then they quoted 6 hours of labor at $875.00, for a grand total of $2443.00. They had a 15% off special, so my final price would have been around $2100.

When I asked if the problem was the accumulator or the shock, the service advisor told me it was the accumulator, but "they are all one piece, so you have to buy them together and we recommend you do them both at the same time." I didn't feel like calling him a liar to his face, so I just thanked him for his time and got out of there.

Can you believe these guys?

So now I think I'll wait til spring, start by replacing the accumulators and go from there.

Thanks again, guys, for all your help and advice!

Kirk

Exactly.

In fact, your "shock absorbers" are actually the accumulators, as the only function the struts serve is ride height adjustment.
