My '92 300T

Hello - The interior lights at the bottom of the doors are not shutting off after the door closes. Does anybody know what causes this? Thanks

* '92 124 Wagen. You're saying that with the doors closed, including the hatch, the four courtesy lights, one in each door, all stay on at the same time? I assume that the overhead light for the hatch doesn't also stay on.
* The only way that this sounds possible is in the unlikely event that all four door switches broke the same way, namely never allowing a disconnect in the respective circuit. It's even not that easy for all four lights to NOT work at the same time (assuming that all four bulbs and the power supply fuse are good).
* What do you find when you check power and ground at each door switch? Disconnect/reconnect power at each switch (the switches come out easily), one switch at a time. Does that always turn off just one light or all four?

* You know, the more I think about this really wierd problem the more I feel the tug at my leg! Like it's getting pulled. Someone's having a roar of a laugh. This is right up there with muffler bearings (have you checked your's lately)! I'm definitely too gullible. I'm laughing......really.

Sorry - I took a closer look. Its only the rear passenger doors courtesy lights that are staying on (along with the rear cabin lights) and I think I have narrowed down the problem. On the front doors, when you push in door switch (as if the door has closed), you can hear the switch(sensor?) click. When you do this with either rear door, you don't hear the click. So there must be a separate sensor (underneath the hood?) for just the 2 rear doors that is out. But I did check my muffler bearings and they are OK. Thanks

Switch on dash console

And, you do remember there is that switch on the center console that will allow you to override the door contacts and have the rear door and compartment lights on all the time, right?? Maybe someone bumped it to the always on position?

I have a 1988 300T and had the same problem, it was killing my battery. So I pulled those bulbs, and was finished with that one.
