95 c220 chain tensioner to tight?
my name is jack and im missing an important step???? i am replacing a headgasket on 95 c220 2.2 [111.961] engine, as i tighten tensioner the crank wont turn. if i back off tensioner 1/4 in it will turn. im reading off mitchell shop key, i marked sprockets and can turn two revolutions and sprockets come up at same spot on sprockets and damper. have taken tensioner apart but no difference. i didnt take cam adjuster apart,and i marked it and pinned cams??? thank you jack

You need to reset the tensioner. take the end cap off it and take the spring out, pull the center part out and insert it again from the back to the position thats shown in the picture below. Install the tensioner back on the engine and tighten to spec. THEN put the spring back in it and tighten the end cap down.

'90 300E 3.0L engine timing chain tension
You have to push the pin all the way through and out the the chain side and then re-insert it from the outside...they have a lock/ratchet feature that only allows the pin to lengthen, so they can not retract when the engine is off.. if you do not reset this , the tensioner will still be at the original length and it will be too tight..this can snap the cam right in half.. That post explains it a little better...or do a search ..there are lots of info. The reason they went to that type is the old ones were hydraulic and they would loose tension when thy sat, resulting in timing chain rattle at start-up and often even jumping timing at start. This ratchet system has eliminated that problem, but many do not know enough to reset it and they wind up breaking expensive valve train stuff...

john what perimiters do i need to show what im trying to say, this all started out as oil in coolant system so we decided to replace head gasket. i marked the sprockets and chain and cams and pined them before i took it apart. all info is apreciated thank you jack
