1986 190E Fan Blower Switch Replacement

will be attempting a fan speed switch replacement this weekend.
My tech manual does not have any procedures on the swap.
Can you advise how to gain access to the old switch? I found the procedure recommended for the 1988 190E but do not see similar screws when removing the two center A/C vents. Thanks in advance.
Dean

The center upright console comes down to access the switch. Pull the louvers out of the center vent assembly (they will probably break the tabs on the sides that keep them tight, you can buy new ones cheap), there are 2 black Phillips head screws going down from the vent assembly into the center console, remove them. Open the ashtray and remove the 2 screws that hold it on. There are 2 screws at the bottom back corners of the console, remove them. The console assembly should be falling down at this point .
Pull the knob off of the switch, if there is a Recirculation air button next to the fan switch pop it out. Then remove the face plate from the switch. Remove the 2 screws holding the switch. Swap over the clips that the screws use to the new switch before reinstalling everything in reverse order.

At least that's how I remember doing it

Hope this helps,

R&R Switch

Yu got a good memory Doc. I followed your directions however added a few unnessary steps through personal intuition (not recommended). Good advice and I thank you but am presently pursuing other problems through a paralell thread (re: Electrical..).
preventing use of A/C or defroster.

86 190E heater blower

My blower does not work. I was wondering, would a blower from an 87 or 88 model be compatible? I am stuck in a country that does not have a freindly neighborhood autozone... thanx. my email is shatique34@yahoo.com.

The wood by the gear shift

Doc

Great directions for the upright console.

Would you be so gracious to help with the wood on the bottom - that is by the gear shift? I need to replace the fader switch on the 201.

Thanks

Looks like it "just pops up" - but would like to avoid braeking any little tabs.
