I once heard on a radio auto talk show, and it was from the host who was supposed to be a pro, that if you wanted your automatic transmission to out last your car, that you should always select the "drive" position prior to using reverse (if the car is cold and hasn't been driven) so everything will get lubricated.
According to him, theres no oil being pumped while in reverse. Is this true only for certain makes? Or are they all that way?

If the engine is running the tranny is pumping and it matters not if it is in reverse or drive.
This does not apply if the tranny is out of the car sitting on the work bench though.
