1998 E430 110,000 mile work
I just completed the following work, I haven't driven it yet... just wondering how much money I saved myself:
1. Front & Rear, Brakes & rotors.. Broke one of the rotor bolts off the small hex 2. Rear Diff oil change with mobil 1 5w30 3. Fuel filter change 4. Cabin filter 5. Engine air filter 6. Serpentine Belt 7. Wiper blade 8. Engine oil & filter 75w 90 Synthetic (8.5 Mobile 1) 9. 16 Spark plugs 10. 4 New tires Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 235/45ZR 17 I still need the transmission services with a fluid change, What is the cost for that?

I hope that you put the gear lube in the differential and the engine oil in the engine.

I'm curious as to the normal labor charges for that list myself. Certainly it's significant.
I need to do my front brakes pretty soon. I'll skip the spark plugs though... |

The spark plugs wasn't bad to change.,., I found it alot easier to remove the coil packs.,.. It didn't take long.. How miles do you have?

I'm at just over 200k. Of course, I don't have any spark plugs. If I did, they would surely be due.

Peter, just had the plugs done on mine. Good list you have there!
I had the tranny fluid done a little while ago by my tech. Total was $300 CDN, about half of which was the cost of the MB tranny fluid.

you probably saved $300 - $500 depending on if you went to an Indy or the dealer.
Good Job.

Peter,
I've approx 95k on my 99 E430 and have noticed the occasional rough idle, guess the plugs are in my future. Did you buy the special tool others have mentioned? Any other comments. I had the transmission oil changed by an independent at around 65k cost I believe was around $300 including fluid, new dipstick, etc, etc. regards, Peter |

At a dealer ....
this work would (I estimate) result in a labor charge of at least $900. Last transmission service I had done by the dealer was $243 which included drain of torque converter and labor charges of $106.

Engine mounts were changed recently. I guess it's not a rough idle, only notice it when the engine has just started in the morning - really more of an occasional miss. No CEL or anything. As the plugs are over due it seemed sensible to change those first.
thanks, Peter |

I thought the only approve grade (223-225) for FSS engine oil is Mobil1 0W40 or newer 5W40? Why did you chose mobil 1 5w30? Anyway to me you're saving more than $300 in labor with just serpentine belt, plug and brake work. JeffreyP |

Spark plug removal
Pwell ... I just uses a open end wrench, for the plug wires.. And I had a little tool from Pep Boys like a flat hook thing, that I used to wedge against the valve cover. Oh yeah I also used a super long pair of needle nose pliers. Be sure to use some of that Dielectric tune up grease for the boots... I smeared some of that on the spark plug shaft and on the inside of the boot.. so the next time the wires won't be so hard to come off... If there is a next time.. :-)
