Replace Starter - 1989 420 SEL

I am about to replace a starter on a 1989 420SEL. I have never replaced one before, so any advice, recommendations and comments are appreciated.

I plan on doing it the following way:

1. drive the front wheels onto ramps.
2. disconnect the battery.
3. undo the wiring
4. remove bolts
5. remove motor
6. replace bolts, wires
7. reconnect battery

Are there any surprises?

Did it work the way you discribed it?

My 1989 420 sel won't start. My mechanic in Houston (I just moved to Austin, said that I need a new starter motor. The motor makes the motor noise when I start the car, but it qon't completely start. I need help! Thanks Jane

it says on cd that wheels have to be turned to the left to allow starter to clear steering linkage..

other than that his info should be good... Has to change starter on my 380se..sooner or later... waiting for ground to become less of the consistancy of soup...or, when it craps out entirely
