1973 W114 280 driveshaft repair / replace

Hi all

Starting having transmission chatter so I'm in the process of having a replacement auto trans put into my 73 280. My mechanic called attention to the drive shaft which apparently had been rotating freely from its intended position causing the old transmission to basically bleed to death from leaks. I guess the u-joint is bad as well.

So his diagnosis was I need an entire new drive shaft because its one piece and it cant be fixed otherwise. Is this accurate and does anyone know a good place to source one of these? I'm located in Nashville, Tn.. Thanks

Paul
