another hesitation problem

It just came, revving was shaky, as if there is no power, acceleration was just rough. So my mechanic replaced the fuel filters on my 88' 260E due to a rusted tank w/c been cleand recently, and the spark plugs w/c have been clogged by carbons w/c he told me was the reason for the hesitations. After that the car ran ok but after a week of sittting it came back, he adjusted the air flow meter the problem was remedied but it came back again, he told me it might be the distributor cap w/c he thinks might have been affected by the carbons also. Seems like I'm plagued w/this problem this is the 3rd time already since I acquired the car. Any inputs on this matter will be so much appreciated. thanks!
