another hesitation problem

It just came, revving was shaky, as if there is no power, acceleration was just rough. So my mechanic replaced the fuel filters on my 88' 260E due to a rusted tank w/c been cleand recently, and the spark plugs w/c have been clogged by carbons w/c he told me was the reason for the hesitations. After that the car ran ok but after a week of sittting it came back, he adjusted the air flow meter the problem was remedied but it came back again, he told me it might be the distributor cap w/c he thinks might have been affected by the carbons also. Seems like I'm plagued w/this problem this is the 3rd time already since I acquired the car. Any inputs on this matter will be so much appreciated. thanks!

exan, what year and model MB automobile are we talking about? Not knowing the capabilities of your independent tech perhaps it's time to find one who is MB-trained and is experienced with your particular model. Each MB model has peculiar quirks and an experienced tech should be able to diagnose and resolve common issues quickly.

The M103 engine will not operate properly if the Plugs, distributor, rotor and leads are not tip top. This is your first port of call.

Then there is a tank filter, filter near the fuel pumps and filter on the intake of the fuel distributor. If these are clogged the car will not run correctly. I guess from your post that these were replaced after your tank cleanout.

Have you run a fuel cleaner through the system since the tank cleanout? There maybe some residual gunk that has been loosened from your tank that has got through to the fuel distributor and or injectors.

Always have at least quarter tank of fuel in the car to stop fuel tank gunk from getting in the system.

You may have fuel pump relay problems also.

You obviously have a 124 260E '88 model.

Yes it's an 1988 w124 260E, my mechanic just cleaned the cap and the car works now. By the way I only changed the fuel filters, not yet the tank filter and to the fuel distibutor and I just changed the fuel pump relay. Actually I'm planning to purchase a tank cleaner/coating from KBS, instead of purchasing a surplus tank. I think the source of this problem is the rusted tank, yeah I don't let the tank go beyond a quarter...

The problem came back, coils, rotor, caps are good, my mechanic cleaned the alternator and did something on the governor, ran ok for now. Will see if it's going to ran fine for long, what else should I look into to resolve this problem? Thanks!
