1995 E320 transmission slipping help needed
OK, I'll try to keep the short and will provide any other information as needed.
I finished the rebuild on my 722.369 transmission last week and I thought that everything was perfect until I took it for a longer trip (45min) and noticed severe slipping. Replaced all friction discs as well as the steels in K1 and K2. Used genuine parts throughout. Shimmed clutches as required and replaced hidden o-rings. I have found that the problem is most severe when using the cruise control (I think it has to do with the steady throttle movement when maintaining speed). I can see the same affect using the gas pedal if I try hard enough. I have tried the cruise in 2nd, 3rd and also drive and the same thing happens: the rpm's keep increasing right up to fuel cut. Without cruise, I notice that when I accelerate, the rpm's jump about 500 (give or take depending on conditions) and then the vehicle speed increases while the rpm's remain constant. This effect is also noticeable to a lesser extent when the transmission is cold. I have measured the modulating pressure and it is consistently at about 60psi at 30mph whether cold or hot (spec is 60.9). I have measured the working pressure and it is 200psi (spec is 174-203 @1000rpm) in drive. I have only measured this cold. In Park or Neutral the pressure is 325 and when I shift into drive it drops to 100psi initially and then rises to 200 within a couple of seconds. At this point I am wondering if this could be a bad torque converter. I am not familiar with torque converter failure modes. I did not replace the torque converter but I did rinse it out as best I could. The valve body was completely disassembled and everything cleaned and reassembled. New spring kit was installed. All help is greatly appreciated. |

My problem turned out to be the valve body. I installed another one from a transmission that I bought at a salvage yard and everything is great. I have put almost 20k on the transmission since I rebuilt it.
