1998 E320 Starts then dies

I have a 1998 E320 that just recently began acting up. When I start the vehicle after a period of rest, the engine starts right up, then dies immediately. I restart the motor and it runs fine until I shut it down and let it sit for a couple of hours, after sitting a few hours, same thing, upon initial start up it dies immediately, then restarts and runs fine. I have no fault codes indicated. I am thinking it may be the Crank Sensor. I had to replace it about 2 years ago, but at that time it would shut down without warning while driving down the road.
Any ideas? I would appreciate any help.

Regards,
Ray

The fuel filter controls fuel pressure, possible a fuel pressure bleed off.

Could be your bladeless key is faulty. Happened on mine.

Hooper, I dunno brother. I used to repo cars and if a transponder key wasn't programmed correctly, the car starts and dies within a few moments.

One time I "stole" a car back and drove it for blocks about 15 feet at a time!! It was in the hood, too:eek:

Look into fuel pressure as MBDOC suggests...

It could be a fuel pressure problem, but if you have a spare key you could rule something out.

Well, not the key

Well, I purchased a new key ($210.00) and I still have the problem.
The battery has not been disconnected, so I do not think it is an idle memory issue. There are no fault codes. It is really strange, the engine starts right up, then shuts off, upon restart, everything is fine.

I am thinking possibly the fuel pump relay!!
