Is it necessary to remove the center plate? or can it be done withit on the car?

Why a backfire disturbs center plate centering?

no you dont have to take center plate off you have to take crossbar off to check if it is bent or not .
depends on the back fire when the center plate is down and a back fire happerns it rams it shut hard .
