Steering Wobble

I have a 1988 2.6 190E.
I have had no end of trouble with front wheel wobble/judder particularly at certain speeds.
I have had the wheels balanced more than once but still no improvement.
The car has been lowered by 40mm and is fitted with aftermarket AMG replica wheels fitted with 205/50/15 tyres this was done prior to my ownership and consequently has some negative camber on the front as well as the rear.
Sometimes a shudder seems to travel through the entire car on occasions!
Has anyone any theories as to what the problem is?
