Purchasing Snap-On MTG2500 Scanner - Help

I am purchasing a used Snap-On MTG2500 Scanner with ver 6 for use on 96 Mercedes. I am not as familiar with this model scanner. I will be using the scanner with Mercedes 2001 primary cartridge and have purchased MB-1 cable and S20key. I am aware of the limited future support Snap-On will be offering on this unit, but the unit should serve my needs well at this time.

The internal rechargeable battery will need replacing, any idea as to availability and cost?

Is the rechargeable battery necessary for operation to set VIN if vehicle power is supplied through MB-1 38 pin data connector?

Are there any software issues concerning the Base unit itself that I need to be aware of that would generate incompatibilities?

Does any Euro function need to be set to allow the base unit to use the 2001 Mercedes cartridge?

Any other caveats or input would be appreciated.
