Talking about an 86 420SEL

I just replaced a bunch of parts on the sunroof to get it working again (Thanks Phil at Mercedesshop.) Now she runs great. But I have a concern. I see that the motor stops automagically when closing the roof up. But it does not stop when you go to pop it open. It does not stop when you go to slide it open. This creates bunches of stress on the motor when sliding open all the way and on the sunroof hardware when popping open.

So here is the question: Should the motor be stopping only at the closed position or should it also automatically stop when popping open fully or sliding open fully?
