Red light between SRS and o2 sensor on dash

I have a red light on the dash of my '88 300E (49 state version) that comes on intermittantly. The light is located on the bottom right side of the cluster between the SRS light and the oxygen sensor light. My owner's manual does not mention this light but does make mention of a diagnostic light for California versions of which mine isn't I don't think. Anyone know what the light means. Seems to come on briefly once in awhile at freeway speeds. Frequency of occurrence is once a week or so. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Whatever it is (methinks it's ABS), simply turn your car to the on position (but do not start it) and all lights should illuminate. What does it say, or what does the symbol look like?

Since you say it's red, I believe it's the low brake fluid indicator. Had you said yellow, I would've thought it was the brake pad wear indicator. Red rules out windshield washer level, the aforementioned brake pad wear indicator, engine oil level, coolant level, exterior lamp failure, ABS, ASR and 4matic (if your car is so equipped). The only other red indicator lamps are battery, parking brake, SRS and Check Engine (if you have that feature).

Hope that somehow helps...

The light does not have any markings on it. That is why I am at a loss. Hope it is not serious. I've only had the car now about a month. Thanks for the help everyone this forum is awesome.

On my 49-state '88 300TE, that spot's dead. I'm thinking some sort of errant light is flickering back there? What happens when you turn the key to "on", but don't start the car? Are all the others working as they should??

My '88 300E does not have a light in that spot either. Is it possible that the SRS or Check Engine back light has come loose and is lighting the panel spot that is blank?

red light

The spot is blank on my car. All the lights function correctly. This spot does light when the key is on and the engine is off. Very strange.

My 89 300E displays the same intermittent red light from the same location as the above, Did you guys ever figure out what causes a light to appear left of the ABS light on the dash.
